Intentional Hoping

“I want to see you,”

I should have whispered

-

In a situation that is orchestrated by intentions and an alignment of our schedules, not by chance

Not because you needed a ride home, like the first time I saw you

Not while I was weighed down

With the picnic I’d packed as it got dark

In more bags than one person should carry

Not with my brother

Inches away

Counting down the minutes of the Uber’s arrival, like the second time I saw you

-

Alone

Me, you

Somewhere

Talking,

Vibing

Speaking our truths

Just continuing

-

I should have said it

But I didn’t

-

“Could I get your number?”

I wanted to ask

-

But I bit my tongue and remained cool

Because if I was going to talk to you again,

It would happen

The same way seeing you again had happened

-

You prophesied the first time I saw you
